Gustavo Sandoval a.k.a. Tavo was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia, on August 12 of 1977.
During his early years at the age of 12, Tavo collected the mix sets of the most famous mobile clubs and DJs of Venezuela & Colombia. His greatest influences at the time were legendary Colombian DJs Pedro Neira, Wilson Arenas and Andres Marques. Following their steps, Tavo started to make serious progress, tuning his skills whilst performing as a junior at mobile clubs and at select house parties.
After winning his first regional DJ championship, Tavo was invited to perform as a guest at a new radio show on "Rumba Stereo." The station aired a live, four hour program which received hundreds phone calls from listeners who appreciate his original and flawless mixing techniques. What made him stand out from the other DJs was his ability to blend all music styles seamlessly. He made it as Resident DJ of the long running show it was there where he received his first nick name: DJ "TavoMixx".
Tavo continued his career on radio, performing live at Radioactiva, La Mega, La Super Estacion, La X and various other national stations. On December 25th 1996, DJ Tavo made history by broadcasting his very own unique nonstop mix style live for a total of 127 hours, 2 minutes and 3 seconds. Across the country all of the radio stations unified for the first time for his record breaking performance. Tavo made the statement that "you don't need any kind of stimulants to have a good time," a message that resonated across Colombia and Latin America. In spring of '97 the Guinness World Record Certificate was presented for the longest live non-stop DJ Set ever performed on radio. This propelled him to legendary status in his country.
Thereafter, Tavo toured Colombia and South America where he enjoyed continual success participating in specialty dance events, prime DJ slots in top clubs, venues and major outdoor events. Tavo continued to enjoy the DJ lifestyle and grew as one of the top Colombian DJs.
Resident DJ positions followed as Tavo won the crowds across many of the country's top venues. Tavo also become a co-director with his friend DJ Danny Soto for the highly rated radio station "Oxigeno".
Tavo then moved to Panama City and became one of the resident DJs from the famous "Rock Cafe" (the most important club of the time in Panama). He also continued his work on radio on one of the Top radio stations of the country, "Rock & Pop".
After crafting his trade, it came time for Tavo to spread his wings and pursue an international experience. Tavo found Japan to be his next stop, which proved to be ideal as Japan was also the birthplace of the famous "Juliana's Tokyo", the first British venue in Japan which created a thriving club scene for many years to follow. It was in Tokyo where he continually honed his professional technique. Tavo traveled extensively for four years and opened for many excellent superstar DJs. This helped him to find a stage of maturity for his DJ style. Tavo continued to gain recognition from the Japanese public, which opened up many opportunities for him. Tavo soon became one of the most recognized DJs on the dance scene and held major DJ residences at all the famous clubs in the Roppongi District.
In 2005 DJ Tavo traveled to China wanting to explore the fantastic Chinese culture and all of the new clubs and venues that had opened during the boom period prior to the 2008 Olympic Games. In a short period of time DJ Tavo was handed a golden opportunity to be the resident DJ for many clubs in Beijing and Shanghai. Touring the country with different DJ companies and as a freelance DJ performer gained Tavo the most valuable experience. China was amazing for DJ Tavo where he played in more than 40 cities, traveling the length and breadth of the Country (Lhasa to Guangzhou, Harbin to Hong Kong) to name but a few. In this region, there were so many fantastic venues where Tavo and his music (vibrant, energetic & charismatic), made the dance floors rumble with the sounds of his selected rhythms. As of today, China is still one of Tavo's most fulfilling experiences. When he left China in 2008, Tavo was one of the most important and respected foreign DJs in the country. Leaving behind so many fans and disappointed club owners only ensures that Tavo will certainly return to China soon.
The page has now turned with a brand new focus and a new adventure. Tavo will be the Resident DJ and Senior Music Director for a flagship club venue in the next biggest stage of his career: India. Treated as a top secret project, this new club in Kolkata will represent a new step in his DJ career. Tavo will now start to share his experience with many important local talents in order to present a great music environment to the people of this great city. Working with Gulf & Asia, a Dubai based company, the boundaries are endless with new venues sprouting up all over the world including Tokyo, Dubai and Bali.
Production Note:
Over the past 10 years as well as being a DJ, Tavo is an accomplished and qualified graphic designer. His love of music and technology has also made him become a proficient remixer and producer. Tavo prefers working with Logic Audio and Abelton Live to name two programs. His unique production style will propel him to the highest levels a DJ/Producer can go.
